Asia-Pacific
Inspired by the
William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition
News: Results for 2019 are available here!
Meanwhile, solutions to 2019 problems are available here.
Competition Date:
12 October 2019.
Eligibility:
Any undergraduate student at a pre-registered University located between New Zealand Standard Time and Indian Standard Time, who has sat the exam at most three times previously.
Competition structure:
Students can enter individually or in pairs.
A university ranking will be determined based on the scores of their 3 best individuals and 2 best pairs. Because SMMC values diversity, this is subject to at least 3 of these students being female and at least 3 being male. Note that universities without 7 such entrants can still register to allow their students to compete for individual and pairs prizes.
Entries and fees:
Universities can enter up to 50 entrants (either individuals or pairs) for free. For each entering unit above this limit, a A$25 entry fee is applicable.
Exam:
Saturday morning: Three hour closed book exam.
Saturday afternoon: Three hour closed book exam.
One of these sessions may include one open problem. Exam centres will be local universities that have registered for the Competition in advance.
Curriculum or exam topics:
Typical undergraduate mathematics curriculum, with any special topics specified annually by the Problem Committee.
Prizes:
Over AUD100,000 in total prize money, with additional internship opportunities.
