In order to make participation in the 2020 Competition as safe as possible, the Organisers have decided to allow a variety of in-person and remote examination formats at different Universities. While every effort will be made to ensure a level playing field during the examination, in the interest of fairness it has been decided not to award the usual cash prizes to Universities and students based on ranking scores. Instead the following prizes will be awarded:
Hofflin Prize
Eligibility: All entrants - individuals and pairs.
Amount: A$3,000 ($1,500 each if won by a pair).
Awarded for: Most creative solution to any problem in the Competition.
Merit Prizes
Eligibility: All entrants - individuals and pairs.
Amount: $1000 for individuals and $2000 for pairs.
Number of prizes: Up to 7 prizes, maximum of 4 to individuals and maximum of 4 to pairs.
Awarded for any of the following:
1. Creative: runners-up to the Hofflin Prize.
2. Visual: most effective demonstration of (part of) the solution to any problem in a visual form, including graphs and sketches.
3. Open Problem: for insightful work on the open problem in the Competition, including proofs of special cases (if applicable).
Entrants - individuals and pairs - will each be awarded at most one of the Prizes above.
